Solar panels can nudge your buildings insurance premium up because they increase the rebuild value of the property and add a small amount of risk. Increases are usually modest.
What actually changes
- Your rebuild cost goes up by the value of the system.
- Some insurers apply a small loading for solar-equipped homes.
- A minority of insurers require you to notify them; a growing number don't.
What to tell your insurer
Give them the total installed value, the installation date, and confirm the installer is MCS-certified. Keep the MCS certificate and Electrical Installation Certificate to hand.
Warranty and installer cover
Insurance is separate from your installation warranty. Our solar and battery installs also come with HIES insurance-backed guarantee cover so you're protected if the installer is ever unable to honour the warranty.
