How Long Does It Take to Upgrade a Fuseboard?

Most UK domestic consumer unit upgrades take a single day, but there are a few situations that can stretch that. Here's what to expect.

For an average UK home a consumer unit upgrade is a one-day job. We arrive first thing, isolate the supply, and normally have power fully restored by late afternoon.

Typical timeline

  • 8:00 — arrive, run pre-installation checks.
  • 9:00 — isolate supply, remove old board.
  • 10:00 – 14:00 — fit new consumer unit and re-terminate circuits.
  • 14:00 – 16:00 — full test, certificate and demonstration.

When it takes longer

If we find issues that need remediation — poor earthing, damaged cables, borrowed neutrals — we'll pause and talk you through the options before continuing. In rare cases work may extend into a second day.
